3.3 - Duties and Responsibilities of the Deputy Chief of Police
The Deputy Chief will be responsible to assist the Assistant Chief and Chief of police with the performance of their duties and perform duties assigned by the Chief and Assistant Chief not listed in this document.
The Deputy Chief will be responsible to assist with oversight into subdivisions and publications, detect issues in those areas and present them to the appropriate individuals within those subdivisions.
The Deputy Chief shall have the ability to propose demotion in accordance with the guidelines of the LSPD SOP, suspend members from duty for a time not to exceed 30 days, remove members from patrol, and issue strikes within the department.
The Deputy Chief shall be responsible to participate in promotion panels for members of the department, and ensure all policies and procedures regarding promotions are being followed by the panel.
The Deputy Chief will perform the duties of the Assistant Chief during an extended absence or vacancy of the Chief and will be required to be an FTO-A
The Deputy Chief serves at the pleasure of The Chief Of Police.
