5.1 - Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • The primary responsibility of an LSPD Major is to ensure investigations and policies are being complied with by Lieutenants through Captains, and ensure all issues are handled in a fair and impartial manner.

  • Majors shall report to Colonels and assist them with all duties when requested.

  • Majors shall be responsible to participate in promotion panels for members of the department, Majors participating in these panels should take special care to ensure all policies and procedures regarding promotions are being followed by the panel.

  • Majors shall be responsible to ensure disciplinary actions documented are made available to LSPD COC above them upon request

  • Majors are expected to be subject matter experts in all matters pertaining to LSPD SOPs and procedures and should be capable of solving any COC issue brought before them.

  • Majors are expected to be subject matter experts in all matters pertaining to FTO duties and should be intimately familiar with all procedures in the FTO SOP.

  • Majors shall be responsible to identify deficiencies of the LSPD to the respective parties responsible for development.

  • Majors are expected to be involved with at least 3 subdivisions and ensure quality training is being conducted and provided for these subdivisions. Majors should also take special care to ensure the subdivision adds value and is of use to the department.

  • Majors are expected to become FTO-E prior to promotion to Colonel.
