6.2 - Sergeant Duties and Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of an LSPD sergeant is to be present in patrols, supervising the patrol for the LSPD and assisting junior members of the same watch. The sergeant will be expected to enforce all policies and procedures for more junior ranking officers and is expected to mentor those officers. A sergeant should always foster a learning environment and be willing to teach on the spot.
Shall be permitted to suspend members from duty for up to 12 hours, this individual must report this suspension to a LT with a narrative in writing immediately following the suspension with a recommended course of action for the individual suspended.
Sergeants should assist Corporals to the maximum extent possible and coach them on supervisory techniques. Sergeants should make themselves available to Corporals as often as possible for on the job training.
Sergeants should assist Lieutenants in the conduct of their duties and when conducting investigations to the maximum extent possible when requested. Sergeants may not conduct an interview for an investigation alone, and must have a Lieutenant present during the conduct of such activity.
Sergeants shall demonstrate an enhanced understanding and application of all LSPD guidelines and standards of the LSPD SOP.
Sergeants are required to become an FTO prior to promotion to Sergeant 2.
Sergeant can strike with the approval of an LT, Lieutenants must fill out a narrative or statement of the issue in writing and provide that to a Captain immediately when this action has been taken.
Sergeant Must Use the Extra Comment sections to Log Their Patrol and what they did.
