4.1 - Commander of Police Duties and Responsibilities
The Commander of LSPD will be responsible to ensure a sense of responsibility exists within COC members beneath them, and will be responsible to ensure those trusted COC members beneath him are performing their duties as prescribed within this document.
The Commander of LSPD shall ensure a culture of learning and professionalism is being bred into the ranks by his supervisors and COC members beneath him and ensure all supervisors and chain of command members are kept abreast of new developments within department policies and procedures.
The Commander shall be responsible to monitor subdivisions to ensure appropriate policy and procedure is present within the respective subdivisions, and remain educated on matters pertaining to those subdivisions. The Commander may propose changes within subdivisions, and facilitate requests for skins, vehicles or uniforms to the Chief upon approval or request from subdivision leaders.
The Commander shall be responsible to conduct promotional panels in accordance with the LSPD SOP and ensure all policies and procedures regarding promotion are adhered to.
The Commander shall have the ability to propose demotion in accordance with the guidelines of the LSPD SOP, suspend members from duty for a time not to exceed 30 days, remove members from patrol, and issue strikes within the department.
The Commander will perform the duties of the Deputy Chief of Police during an extended absence or vacancy of the Deputy Chief of Police.
The Commander will be required to be a certified FTO-A.
