4.2 - Colonel Duties and Responsibilities
Colonels shall be responsible to the Commander of LSPD to assist the Commander in the performance of their duties and perform duties assigned by the Commander not listed in this publication.
Colonels are responsible to remain up to date in LSPD matters through Lieutenant Colonels and Majors of LSPD and address any issues presented by those two ranks. Colonels should keep clear communication lines with the Commander and inform them of any concerns developing in cultural practices.
Colonels should participate in promotional panels in accordance with the LSPD SOP and ensure all policies and procedures regarding promotion are adhered to.
Colonels shall have the ability to propose demotion in accordance with the guidelines of the LSPD SOP, suspend members from duty for a time not to exceed 30 days, remove members from patrol, and issue strikes within the department.
Colonels will perform the duties and responsibilities of the Commander of Police or Majors of Police in an extended absence or vacancy of the Commander of Police or any Major of Police.
Colonels will be required to be a certified FTO-E
