5.2 - Captain Duties and Responsibilities

  • The primary responsibility of an LSPD Captain is to be present in patrols, supervising the watch for LSPD and assisting Sergeants as requested. Captains shall also be responsible to identify deficiencies of the LSPD to the respective parties responsible for development.

  • Captains shall report directly to Majors for all matters pertaining to LSPD COC

  • Captains shall be responsible for reviewing investigations conducted by Lieutenants First Class and ensure proper procedure is followed during the conduct of investigations, that the investigation was completed and fair, and that disciplinary action issued for the offense is fair and impartial.

  • Captains shall be responsible to participate in promotion panels for members of the department, Captains participating in these panels should take special care to ensure all policies and procedures regarding promotions are being followed by the panel.

  • Captains shall be responsible to finalize reports and disciplinary actions for review by Majors and intervene into these issues as needed.

  • Captains shall be allowed to suspend members from duty for a period not to exceed one week, remove members from the patrol, and issue strikes within the department. Captains are required to fill out a narrative or statement of the issue in writing and provide that to a Major within 24 hours of the action taken.

  • Captains are expected to be involved with at least 2 subdivisions and preferably lead a subdivision. Captains within these subdivisions should ensure quality training and that the subdivision has value added to the department.

  • Captains are now expected to do the SGT II Ride Along before entry to Chain Of Command.

  • Captains Must attend Monthly and Bi-Weekly Meetings.
