7.1 - Promotions

Every pay grade within the Los Santos Police Department has certain requirements for individuals to be qualified for a promotion. Promotion boards shall convene between the 27th through 29th of every month and if an Officer is to be promoted, they shall be promoted not later than the 30th of the month. Junior Officers promotions will be considered between the 10th and 14th day of every month, and then will fall in line with the monthly requirement for Officers above Corporal. Deviation from this system shall not occur unless a vote to change department policy has been made. Any Officer who has been striked during a period of consideration for promotion or that is the accused party of an ongoing investigation for misconduct or violation of procedure will not be promoted to the next pay grade until that matter is resolved, or if they have received a strike during the period for consideration shall not be promoted until the next promotion cycle.

  • Promotion from Cadet to Officer will be achieved through completion of the Basic Cadet training. These training sessions are often lengthy and very detailed, please ensure you have enough time to accomplish these training sessions as opportunities arise. If a cadet fails to complete training within 30 days of hire the cadet will be removed from the department and will need to wait their cooldown period before reapplying.

  • Promotion for Officer through Senior Will be based on activity and time in service. During these times it is expected that an officer continues to familiarize themselves with policies and procedures of the LSPD and constantly broaden their understanding of Los Santos Police Departments policies, and procedures. These individuals should also show a basic understanding of 10-codes, Penal code, advanced radio etiquette and the ability to make sound and timely decisions under duress. Promotion for Officer through Senior Officer requires 15 days time in grade for each respective rank. There shall not be exceptions for time in grade requirements.

  • Promotion to Corporal will require an observed ability to handle situations and show knowledge of LSPD policies and procedures. The rank of Corporal will also require at least one subdivision certification achieved by the Officer considered for promotion. Corporals shall be entered into the Field Training Assistant (FTA) program upon promotion and are expected to attend Cadet Training Courses and assist. Corporals will be designated Supervisors in Training and will be expected to carry out supervisory functions under the watchful eye of a Sergeant or above. Officers will not be considered for promotion to Corporal if they have an existing pattern of misconduct.

  • Promotion to Sergeant Those considered for promotion must also show improvement during the Corporal supervisor probationary period and the mental capacity to make fair, impartial decisions. Sergeants must also hold at least 1 subdivision designation at the time of promotion. No individual shall be considered for promotion to Sergeant until they have shown extensive knowledge of the LSPD SOP and procedures. Officers will not be considered for promotion to Sergeant if they have an existing pattern of misconduct. Must have done an evaluation With a Captain and above.

  • Promotion to Lieutenant Requires the Officer to have demonstrated mastery of all LSPD policies and procedures. Lieutenants shall be responsible as watch commanders when on duty and must demonstrate strong critical thinking ability and member investigation skills. This is the entry level rank for chain of command. A Lieutenant shall head, or be very active within a subdivision, and acquire a subdivision trainer certification upon promotion. Promotion from Sergeant 2 to Lieutenant will require 1 months time in grade as a Sergeant 2. Officers with a pattern of misconduct will not be considered for promotion to Lieutenant. Must have done a evaluation Ride Along with a Captain and above.

  • Promotion to Captain Requires the Officer to be in compliance with all previous requirements set forth by the Los Santos Police Department, the Officer must not have a pattern of misconduct, nor shall the Officer in question have received any counselling for misconduct in the 2 months leading to consideration. A Captain will be required to take charge of heading a subdivision, or ensuring a subdivision has value added and seeks to improve the existing systems in place within the Los Santos Police Department. Officers with a pattern of misconduct will not be considered for promotion to Captain.

  • Promotion to Major Requires recommendation from the Office of the Commander and commendation from existing Majors if any. A Major will be expected to have demonstrated mastery of all Los Santos Police Department Policies and procedures, and be a participating member or trainer within a minimum of 3 subdivisions of the Los Santos Police Department. During absence of a subdivision lead, a Major shall assume lead of a subdivision until a new subdivision leader is appointed. Prior to promotion to Major, Officers will be expected to be active in the FTO program. Promotion to Major requires 1 month time in grade as a Captain with no misconduct during those 2 months time in service. Officers with a pattern of misconduct will not be considered for promotion to Major.
